Update from the road:

This past Sunday, we ate at Cracker Barrel. For those uninitiated into the ways of the Cracker Barrel, it is a Southern Style restuarant found mostly near highways in an effort to appeal to travelers. They have gone so far as to offer books on tape for rent at each location which can then be return at the next Cracker Barrel down the highway.

The food is heavily influeneced by the South and offers, fried chicken, chicken fried steak and hashbrown casserole. Fear not vegetarians, they offer the traditional vegetable plate complete with macaroni and cheese as an option because in the South, mac and cheese is a vegetable.

If you ever come across you have to try the Strawberry Ice Box Pie. It was delicious and refreshing. I will be coming up with my own version when I get home. Also be sure to check out their hasbrown casserole. I have a similar version here on the blog.

I am updating via the text function of my phone so please excuse the spelling errors and such. Here is a link to Cracker Barrel, http://www.crackerbarrel.com . And a link to my hashbrown casserole, http://www.myveggietable.com/2009/08/hashbrown-casserole.html

Enjoy
